If you are one of those people who went crazy about the “Tetris”, that old Russian-style game in which you had to accommodate the pieces according their shapes, while they were falling down, definitely you’re going to love this game! TiQal is about pretty much the same, but some differences arise though. Let’s know a little bit more about this game.
The story tells that the TiQal village is in a hurry. Something terrible has turned what once was a prosperous village into ruins. Now, the shaman sends you on a journey to find the “Popakom”, a magical totem to get everything back to normal.
The objective of the game is to create squares of four blocks of matching color. The blocks fall down in groups of two or three, so you have to rotate the formation in order to get it fit with the blocks that are already on the base. You have a dispenser from which you have to drop the blocks, decide the position where you drop them, and rotate the arrangement if you need to. Each time you create a square, the blocks disappear from the board and you get points. Depending on the type of arrangement and the amount of blocks involved, the points you get. In order to pass the level, you have to accumulate a certain amount of blocks released.
When you first enter the game, you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options:
- Players: the first time there’s no existing player. After you create one or more, they’ll be saved. When you enter into this submenu, you’ll be asked for a name as a new player. It’s possible to have a list of different players and record their performance. This way, you can play home tournaments with family and friends.
- Start Game: to start playing at once.
- High scores: to see the best performances achieved.
- Accomplishments: to see the list and explanation of the accomplishments you can get on the game.
- Help and Options: this is the menu from which you can get some help and set some game options, like sound volume, music volume, and full screen.
- Quit: no further explanation required.
When you’re playing the game, you can always click on the Menu button to access to a pop-up menu with these options:
- Return to game: to finish the current game.
- Help and Options: the same Options menu commented before.
- High scores: the same high scores option commented before.
- Accomplishments: idem.
- Quit: to close the application.
